An emergency evacuation simulator with an integrated user interface and animated 3D results to evaluate evacuation models more quickly and produce very realistic graphics. It provides support for the import of AutoCAD format DXF and DWG files. Pathfinder’s floor extraction tool allows to easily use the imported geometry to define the occupant walking space for the evacuation model and allows to import a blueprint in GIF, JPG, or PNG format as a background to help you draw your model directly over the image.

Pathfinder also supports two simulation modes: a Steering mode, where agents proceed to their goal avoiding any obstacle; and SFPE mode, where agents use predefined behaviors, with density-dependent walking speeds and flow limits to doors. It provides human models that represent different emergency responders to realistically portray the population group of interest. Pathfinder can smoothly animate tens of thousands of people in real time using a standard graphics card and provides also easy tools to create videos to record the results. During the Co-VID 19 pandemic, a new parameter has been developed to give a good understanding of potential mass gathering.

PyroSim is a graphical user interface for the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). It helps you quickly create and manage the details of complex fire models and includes support to launch a parallel simulation using MPI. For a single machine with multiple cores or CPUs, parallel processing is an integrated tool and all details are managed for you.


PyroSim imports AutoCAD DXF and DWG files. When PyroSim imports a DWG/DXF file, it will treat all 3D face data as obstructions and all other data (lines, curves, etc.) as separate CAD data. Alternatively, a drawing in GIF, JPG, or PNG format can be imported and then used as a background to help you rapidly draw your model directly over the image. In Pyrosim you can create meshes, manage input for simulation, run FDS and process results.

ARTU (Analisi di Rischio Tunnel / Tunnel Risk Analysis) is an in-house tool to implement a methodology for the assessment of risk in tunnels. It calculates an FN-curve related to the occurrence of a fire, in new and in existing tunnels that are due for renovation, by adopting 1D egress and smoke propagation models to simulate fire events in galleries and to evaluate the interferences among people and combustion products.


Since the Directive of the European Parliament, risk assessment has become an integral part of tunnel design to achieve the safety goals. The innovative aspect of ARTU is that it uses a probabilistic framework to evaluate a large number of fire scenarios, and a deterministic approach to describe the interaction between fire products and people involved in the accident. The evacuation is simulated taking into account the environmental conditions. The effect of fire is estimated by the FED (Fractional Effective Dose) parameter, with a detailed description of damage in terms of life safety, which is the focus of ARTU. Cantene appointed Lund University to perform a validation of the tool, theoretically and with experimental simulations.
